Barthenau Vigna San Urbano DOC 2018 – Hofstatter

The ruby red color reveals its concentration. The bouquet opens up gradually, releasing the typical aromas of a classic “Bourgogne”.
The scent of black cherries and raspberries is highlighted by delicate tones of finely spiced vanilla. Matured in small oak barrels, it is well balanced in the mouth and convincing with elegant acidity, well integrated tannins
and an exceptional aromatic concentration.

The Barthenau Vigna S. Urbano is the expression of a prestigious vintage. located in the heart of the Barthenau estate in Mazon, where some of the vines are over 55 years old.

Only the name “Vigna” guarantees the origin in the Alto Adige of a wine from a specific vineyard.

 

Vinification and maturation.

Carefully harvested by hand, the grapes arrive at the winery in small crates to keep the berries intact.
75% of the grapes are destemmed, 25% remain intact for harvesting. Fermentation in barrels. One day of cold maceration is sufficient to refine the
bouquet. Fermentation continues for about 10 days, the skins being in permanent contact with the wine. . The maturation in wood includes two distinct phases: the first one of about 12 months in
small French oak barrels and the second one consists in blending the different ones in one big oak barrel for about 8 more months.
After bottling, the wine is matured in the bottle for eight months in the cellars of the Barthenau estate.
