Amaro Elixir Sancti Vigilii – Liqueur of aromatic plants – Villa de Varda
The Elixir Sancti Vigilii is in fact produced according to a historical recipe of the Dolzan family, which was made during the First World War in order not to lose its tradition. The unique properties of each of the herbs it contains were studied by the botanist and physician of the prince-bishop during the Council of Trento (1545 to 1563), Pietro Andrea Mattioli; the original combination of herbs has been passed down for centuries and is now preserved in the Villa de Varda museum. Given the great historical value of this bitter-lixir, the Dean Monsignor of the Cathedral of Trento asked to reproduce this bitter with herbs and roots and to name it Elixir Sancti Vigilii, in honor of the most famous and glorious prince-bishop of the city of Trento and patron saint of Trentino.
